How Will You Make Your Holiday Marketing Special?

There are people out there that just seem to blend into the background. They’re not tall. They’re not short. They’re not particularly fat or thin, young or old. There’s nothing about them that really stands out. In fact, you could probably pass them on the subway five times and never give them a second look.

You can probably think of products and the advertisements for those products that are just like them. They sit on the shelf doing nothing to distinguish themselves from a dozen other similar products. Their ads are barely a blip on the radar. It’s almost like elevator music in a way, and it’s exactly what you don’t want for your holiday marketing campaign.

No, you want to be the one that stands out. You want to be the one everybody’s talking about when they get off the train. You want your holiday marketing to be special.

To make your marketing special, first ask yourself what it is that makes you special. What do you have that the other guy or gal doesn’t? Is it quality service? Is it passion for the product? Maybe it’s an in-depth knowledge of the local market that no national brand can match. Whatever you think it is, if you got it, flaunt it!

They say you want to tell someone about something at least three times, so don’t be afraid of a little repetition. That’s right. Tell ‘em, tell ‘em what you told ‘em and then tell ‘em again. Send multiple emails, direct mailers or holiday cards announcing your sales or holiday events.

Don’t be afraid to go against the grain either. You’re not the only one marketing during the holidays, which means there’s a lot of noise out there. Do something cool that no one else is doing. Is everybody marketing for Christmas and New Years’ Day? Well, zig when they zag by offering up some January promotion to brighten up your client’s post-holiday blues.

Make it easy on your clients too. Have you ever been interested in buying something only to be stymied by a website that’s a nightmare to navigate? Don’t be that business. Spruce up your website with some cool holiday themes, and above all: make it clean, fun and easy for clients to buy from you. They want to give you money. Why on earth would you make it hard for them?

While you’re at it, don’t keep all the holiday fun for yourself. Instead, share the joy by working with other businesses. This type of promotion is particularly good when you run a non-retail business that normally doesn’t have a lot of tie-in to the holidays. You can also partner with local charities. Not only does it help get your name out there in a positive way, but you’re helping make the world a better place.

When it comes to holiday marketing, don’t be that boring guy on the subway. Stand out from the crowd by making your advertising campaign as unique as you are.
