Is Your Business Portable?

Have you ever watched an old TV show, maybe a murder mystery or a dark thriller, and thought about how much easier it would’ve been for the detectives if they’d had cell phones? Maybe you shook your head as they poured through a ton of dusty of books in a forgotten library looking for clues or marveled at how out of touch they were as soon as they were out of their  offices.

As a business owner, there’s no reason you have to be like those detectives. In 2018, as long as you have an Internet connection and the right software, running your business can go wherever you go. There are some great reasons to make your business portable.

You can keep up with things. It used to be that if you wanted to stay on top of your business  you had to be right there in the office. Now you can keep up with events in real time. You can see data as it comes in or view the progress of a critical project. If something goes wrong, you can be right there to handle it, even though you’re thousands of miles away. Out of the office no longer has to mean out of touch. Check out asana.com for slick project management.

You can go to your clients. In the old days, doctors would make house calls to their sick patients. (Some concierge physicians still do.) It’s a quaint bit of old-fashioned customer service that mostly went out of style long before most of us were born. It doesn’t have to. Technology allows us to be like those old doctors. We can go where our clients are. Why put them through the inconvenience of having to come into your office when you can solve their problems without interrupting their schedule? It’s that type of personal service that can help you stand out from the crowd. The easier you can make doing business for your clients, the easier they’ll make it on your bottom line. Check out ScheduleOnce.com for smart appointment and meeting management.

You can get work done in better settings. Have you ever looked around your office and felt it was more like a prison than a productive work space? Or that it sure would be nice to go out and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine instead of fluorescent lights and plastic plants? Now technology allows us to have our cake and eat it productively. Want to go sit in the park for a few hours and still get things done? You can, and there’s a good chance you’ll feel more relaxed, and more confident while you’re doing it. Want to take a working vacation and listen to the sounds of ocean waves instead of city traffic? You can, and may even come up with some new insights to help you solve a particular problem.

The days of being stuck in the office are over. It's 2018, take your office with you and leave the payphones and the dusty old books for the detectives.
