What's on Your Bucket List?

It's nearing the end of 2013.

Facing the end of a year and the beginning of a new one always makes me reflective. Ever since Dom & I saw the movie (ok, several years ago), "Bucket List," with outstanding actors Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, I ponder my own bucket list every December.

If you're not familiar with the term, it's a list of things you absolutely want to do before you die. For many people, writing a book is on that list; for others, it might be as grand as a trip around the world or as altruistic as being a Big Brother/Big Sister.

Our incomparable peak performance coach, Lee Milteer, often talks about the importance of taking care to keep balance in your life. As part of that concept, she challenged us to write our Bucket List and accomplish one thing from that list as soon as possible.

I've been working on my list for awhile. I was surprised to find it wasn't as easy for me as I thought it would be but I'm so glad I took the time to write it. Just for fun, I'd like to share some of the things on my personal Bucket List with you:

  • Take art classes in Italy
  • Take a cruise with our close family
  • Write an inspirational book using my dad's sermons
  • Enjoy season tickets to the New England Patriots
  • Own a home on the beach
  • Learn to speak Italian and Spanish
  • Take my mother on a trip to Nova Scotia
  • Have one of my paintings in an exhibit

Maybe some of these will strike a chord with you, maybe not. Hopefully they will at least get you thinking about your own bucket list.

Our lives are all too short to find ourselves at the end, wishing we had done what we'd dreamed of doing and not being able to. Do yourself the favor of setting aside some time before the end of 2013 to write your own bucket list. Really think about what's important to you and what you 'have to' accomplish before you come to the end of your life. Then commit to doing one thing from your list in the first half of 2014.

Don't leave it till 'later'. Do it now.

Enjoy every minute!
